Criteria Standards

This Webquest was designed according to the Queensland Cirriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework (QCAR) standards and Essential Learnings for Year 9 Geography (SOSE) and Science.

General Standards:

Achievement standards can be applied across all key learning areas. Judgments about student achievement are based on a collection of evidence gathered over time. These standards are base on the level of knowledge and understanding of concepts, facts and procedures, and application of processes evident in a student's work.

Esential Learnings - Geography (SOSE):

Students use their knowledge about the complex interactions between people, and between people and their environments, to investigate social, political, economic, environmental and cultural ideas and issues. In particular:

  • Time, continuity and change.
  • Place and space.
  • Culture and identity.
  • Political and economic systems.

Students clarify their personal values and acknowledge others’ values and world views in a range of contexts and settings. They develop their capacity for effective community participation and meaningful responses to social and environmental issues.

Students demonstrate evidence of their learning and the essential processes of ways of working over time in relation to the following assessable elements:

  • Knowledge and understanding
  • Investigating
  • Communicating
  • Participating
  • Reflecting

Essential Learnings - Science:

Students use their scientific knowledge, curiosity and intuition to test and confirm their understandings, and to investigate the world. They understand that science is a body of knowledge, developed through human observations and inferences, that may reflect diverse values and beliefs. They understand that science is a way of thinking and working, and they apply their scientific knowledge to make responsible and informed decisions about real-world issues. In particular:

  • Science as a human endeavour.
  • Earth and beyond.
  • Energy and change.
  • Life and living.
  • Natural and processed materials.

Students demonstrate evidence of their learning and the essential processes of ways of working over time in relation to the following assessable elements:

  • Knowledge and understanding
  • Investigating
  • Communicating
  • Participating
  • Reflecting
